85% wool from our Border Leicester, Blue Faced Leicester, Romney crosses. Their fleece is lustrous, long growing and curly. While not the softest wool, which is generally reserved for the fine wool breeds like Merino and Cormo, it has lovely sheen and wears well with little pilling. This yarn is custom spun for us by Junction Fiber Mill in White River Junction, Vermont. Because my breed of sheep has little crimp the the mill incorporated about 15% of either Merino or Falkland wool to accomodate the requirements of their spinning equipment. They pindraft the fiber prior to spinning which further aligns the fibers for softer and smoother yarn. This process shows off the natural luster of the longwool fleeces. I hope you enjoy creating with this locally produced yarn.
This 3-ply yarn is perfect for warm sweaters and cozy outerwear. Cables show especially well when using 3-ply yarn.
